Why are there so many versions of the Bible? (And I DO NOT intend blasphemy.)?

To read the original version you need to be able to read an ancient language called Aramaic. It is a very simple language in which the same word can have a number of meanings. For example the word for "day" can also mean "period of time". This causes problems when the Bible is translated in verbally richer modern languages. The translator must choose which of a number of modern words to fit to an Aramaic word. This vagueness allows for a number of alternative translations - and that is what happens.
