Why do the Balkans constantly argue over where Alexander the Great came from?

Well, the acheivements of Alexander were such that the people of Macedonia, Greece and Albania all wish he was one of them, so they can bask in his reflected glory. They can't take being told the truth (that Alexander was the son of a Greek king of Macedon) and so squabble about it like little boys fighting over a shiny toy.
