Is SNL live when they show it on TV? or is it recorded then just played ?

it's live when you live on the east coast because if you live on the west coast let's say they play it at 11pm but over in the west coast its 9 or something. so that means there is a 2 hour waiting period for the west coast but people over near new york get to watch it live.
