Crochetted washcloths - best stitch?

I have a ton of small samples of 100% cotton yarn, just about the amount I will need to crochet some washcloths. What's the best stitch (or stitches) to make washcloths that will be used against the skin in the shower? (I'm good at following stitch patterns, no matter how complicated).
